Beseeched, Proctored, and Dagoba Chocolate

Beseeched by PWNtheSAT and proctored by mom, 11th grade son agreed (reluctantly) to take a full, timed 11th hour practice test before test day.

It helped.

And trust me when I say, no one wants to do a FULL TIMED TEST before the actual test.  But it works.  I'm scheduled to take another full one tomorrow (reluctantly).

Incidentally, it was the first piece of SAT advice I ever received, but it took a lot of pain and lack of progress for me to finally submit to carving out those hours and energy.

Son's other feedback: The super dark chocolate helped, so it's not just me.  A few bites during the break and you're ready to roll for the next section, I promise. Must be 75% cocoa or higher.

I'm into the Dagoba these days (ALL of them!).

"I want him to like it as much as I do." Cracked me up - your enthusiasm has not diminished! It's so cool to see how what you have learned is helping him - that is such a powerful part of this project that I didn't fully expect. Congrats!

You know.....people who don't know me occasionally stop by the blog and take issue with my whole "perfect" schtick.....  But they don't get me!  I'm all about enjoying the process.  To me, that IS "perfection."  One of my theories from the beginning is that if you enjoy a process you do better -- and I did read book (Carol Dwick's, I think?) that said something similar.  A lot is in the attitude, I think.

Well, actually, I should have an actual perfect score by College Board scoring if it's about the attitude, so maybe not.

But at least I'm having fun.  And it turns out my son is too.

My daughter just walked by on the way out to go to school and I asked if there was an opportunity to cheat where she takes the SATs and she said yes, the proctor does not walk up and down the aisle but just sits in the back.  I then asked her if she thought any of the kids did cheat and she said definitely not.  I asked if that was because they knew it really was such an important test and it would ruin their future if they were caught cheating.  She said, no, that they were all scared because at the start of the test the proctor says "if you want everyone to hate you...." because I guess they have to throw out everyone's test if they catch even one person cheating.

I know in our school though cheating is rampant on the standardized state testing....last year there were three kids cheating off my daughter.

Fascinating....and funny...and interesting what motivates a kid most (i.e. not wanting to be disliked).
