How I’d Get the Perfect SAT Score…If I Were Granted a Re-Do

Had a great conversation with the eternally optimistic Kristin Hiemstra on her show The Art of Potential the other day.

Told her how I'd do it if I could have a re-do.

Hindsight is 20/20....but if I could re-live that year.....Click the player below to hear to hear what I'd do:

7 SATs + 10 months =  my 2011. Check out the SAT Resources,  Tips, and FAQ pages for frequent updates about what I learned.

Speak it sister!  Thank you so much for emphasizing the importance of the blue book.  I say it everywhere I can, but you can get a lot farther than I can :)

It's one of those things that nooowwwwww, I can't believe I didn't just know that from the get-go.  But I didn't.

No one does.  But keep talking.  Eventually parents and students will get it!

  • Dylancatlow

what I'm I supposed to be getting?

    • http://www.perfectscoreproject.com Debbie Stier

I'm confused by the question.  There's a link to a radio show...can you not get that?

  • Maidavaile

Hello Debbie, I was wondering if your are taking the exam anytime soon, and do you register online? or by paper registration?? I've been having trouble with the website for the past 4 days or so, and it won't let me register.

    • http://www.perfectscoreproject.com Debbie Stier

I don't have any plans to take it in the Fall at  this point, but I just looked on their site and it looks like the registration is open for the Fall: http://sat.collegeboard.org/register I always registered online and didn't have any trouble.

It's still early enough that I wouldn't worry -- but you can always call them on the phone.

Also, I'd make a point of getting a test center where A) there are proper sized desks (not those little deskettes attaches to the chairs) and I'd make sure it takes place in a classroom, not a gym (echoes).  Here are some other tips to think about when deciding where to take the test. http://perfectscoreproject.com/tips/

      GOOD LUCK!!

  • Maidavaile

Do you of any good  vocabulary website where i could practice my vocabulary??

    • http://www.perfectscoreproject.com Debbie Stier

      Hi...I'd try Word-Nerd  http://www.word-nerd.com/

Also, this isn't specifically SAT vocab, but I've heard a lot of good things about Free Rice http://freerice.com/#/english-vocabulary/1409 and it's for a good cause.

Also, Erica Meltzer has written a lot about Vocabulary and good ways to learn it : http://www.thecriticalreader.com/

And if you're like me (i.e. have trouble "studying" on a computer), the Direct Hits Books are GREAT: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=a9_sc_1?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Adirect+hits&keywords=direct+hits&ie=UTF8&qid=1340196231

Thanks for the recommendation Debbie! Just came across this :) Maidavaile, please feel free to contact me if you have questions about Word-Nerd. Debbie, hope things are going well for you! You must be in a writer's cave lately...hahaha!

        • http://www.perfectscoreproject.com Debbie Stier

Ok, Disqus changed since the last time I was living like a person and I don't know how to use anymore. Where'd the "attach photo" button go? And what are those little up and down arrows? And what happened to "Like?"

Cave...you have no idea. I have not seen natural light in weeks (months?). Living under the SAD lamps. I thought this morning I'd try it with my "shades open" -- but I had to close them. Couldn't take the distraction. I need dark room with one bright light, complete quiet (except for classical music).

I can see the finish line though.

P.S. on my "to do" list (that I can't touch until I'm done is "return Sheldon wn email!"

I just discovered this blog! Thank you!

      awww, thank you!~

  • Laney

honestly maybe you're just not the world's most brilliant test taker, and there's nothing wrong with that. i think this quest is a bit silly and ineffective to be honest... isn't the SAT supposed to correlate with specific mental abilities, like g? i never had a tutor or even bought a prep book, and i didn't get any answers wrong. i think there are many people who don't rely on test preparatory supplements to boost their scores - it's got a lot to do with natural aptitude

      Congrats.

"Many" people don't score as well as you did. Especially without preparing. You're in the .023% (or something like that).

You can improve with the right kind of preparation. No question. That's the $64,000 question I'm trying to answer. What IS that kind of test prep.
Not for you though! Or the lucky few who are the same league.

      When did you take it?
